Time Card Calculator

List your start and end times, one shift per line, and get the hours worked after unpaid breaks. Add an hourly rate to see the pay.

Your shifts

One shift per line as start-end, with an optional unpaid break in minutes after a comma. Examples: 09:00-17:30, 30 or 9am - 5pm. If the end is earlier than the start, the shift is treated as overnight.

How a time card is added up

For each shift, the time worked is the end time minus the start time minus the unpaid break. If the end time is earlier than the start time, 24 hours are added to the end so overnight shifts count correctly.

The shifts are then added together. The total is shown as decimal hours, which is what payroll usually multiplies by the rate, and as hours and minutes. Times can be written in 24-hour form or with am and pm.

Formulas used

Shift time = End − Start − Break (add 24 h if End is earlier than Start)
Total hours = Sum of shift times
Gross pay = Total hours × Hourly rate

Worked example

Five shifts of 09:00-17:30 with a 30-minute unpaid break:

  1. Each shift: 17:30 − 09:00 = 8:30, minus 0:30 = 8:00
  2. Five shifts: 5 × 8:00 = 40:00

Total: 40 hr (40:00).

Assumptions and limits

  • A shift can be up to 24 hours long and cannot overlap with itself; shifts are not checked against each other.
  • Up to 100 shifts are accepted.
  • The currency choice only changes how amounts are displayed. No exchange rates are applied.
