How the numbers are drawn

Whole numbers are drawn uniformly between the minimum and the maximum, both included. The tool avoids the small bias that a simple remainder would introduce by discarding values that would make some numbers more likely than others.

With “No repeats” every number appears at most once, which is like drawing from a hat. Decimals are drawn uniformly across the range and rounded to the places you choose. Nothing is sent to a server; the numbers are generated on your device.

Method

Integer = Minimum + random whole number below (Maximum − Minimum + 1)
Decimal = Minimum + random fraction × (Maximum − Minimum), rounded

Example

A range of 1 to 100 with one whole number, like rolling a hundred-sided die:

  1. The range holds 100 possible numbers, each equally likely.
  2. Each press of Generate draws a new one, so the result changes every time.

Any whole number from 1 to 100, each with a 1% chance.

Assumptions and limits

  • Minimum and maximum can be between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000.
  • Up to 1,000 numbers per draw; decimals up to 6 places.
  • Changing any setting clears the last draw, so you never see numbers that do not match the settings.
