Pixels to Inches Converter
A pixel has no fixed physical size. Choose the pixel density (PPI) and convert pixels to inches, centimeters and millimeters, or go the other way.
Result
- Size in pixels
- 1,920 px
- Size in centimeters
- 50.8 cm
- Size in millimeters
- 508 mm
- Pixel density used
- 96 PPI
How pixels relate to inches
Pixel density says how many pixels fit in one inch. Dividing a pixel count by the density gives the length in inches, and multiplying inches by the density gives the pixel count.
One inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters or 25.4 millimeters, so the metric values follow directly from the inch value.
Formulas used
Inches = Pixels ÷ PPI
Pixels = Inches × PPI
Centimeters = Inches × 2.54
Millimeters = Inches × 25.4 Worked example
An image 1,920 pixels wide at 96 PPI:
- Inches: 1,920 ÷ 96 = 20
- Centimeters: 20 × 2.54 = 50.8
1,920 px at 96 PPI = 20 in.
Assumptions and limits
- Pixels are treated as square, with the same density horizontally and vertically.
- The conversion is geometric only; it does not consider screen scaling or device pixel ratio.
- PPI can be up to 10,000 and values up to 10,000,000.
Common questions
How many pixels are in an inch?
It depends on the pixel density of the screen or printout. CSS defines 96 pixels per inch for layout, print jobs commonly use 300 PPI for sharp results, and phone screens have much higher physical densities. There is no single answer without a PPI.
Does a higher PPI make an image bigger?
No. For a fixed number of pixels, a higher PPI makes the printed size smaller, because the same pixels are packed into less space. For example, 3,000 pixels at 300 PPI measure 10 inches, but only 5 inches at 600 PPI.
